About the position

The Pawtucket School Department is seeking a dedicated and passionate secondary school Spanish teacher for a one-year position at Samuel Slater Middle School in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. This role is crucial in implementing the educational curriculum under the guidance of the school administrator. The Spanish teacher will be responsible for creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. The teacher will plan and provide appropriate learning experiences tailored to meet the diverse needs of all students, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to succeed. In this position, the teacher will establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, effectively communicating these goals to students and their families. Preparation for classes is essential, and the teacher must demonstrate written evidence of this preparation when requested by the immediate supervisor. Monitoring and evaluating student outcomes is a key responsibility, as is the development and modification of instructional plans and materials to cater to the varying needs of students. The teacher will also maintain accurate records and adhere to required procedures and practices, ensuring that all aspects of the educational process are documented and transparent. The Spanish teacher will actively participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars to gather and convey information necessary for fulfilling their role. Communication and interaction with students, staff, parents, and the broader community are vital components of this position. The teacher will supervise students in various school-related settings and will play an active role in the advisory program, supporting students in their advisory classes. Building relationships with families to communicate student progress is also a critical aspect of this role. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and skills in instructional techniques, assessment methods, and differentiated instruction. They should be adept at managing classroom procedures and behaviors, organizing physical space to create a safe and resource-rich environment, and maintaining accurate records. Familiarity with Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) is preferred, along with cultural competency and conflict resolution skills. The ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups is essential, as is the capacity for independent problem-solving and teamwork. The teacher should be a reflective practitioner, committed to maintaining and improving their professional competence.

Requirements

  • Valid RI Teaching License in secondary Spanish
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience preferred
