About the position

Spanish Immersion Workshop, Long Island's leading Spanish program for children, is seeking a fluent (native) Spanish teacher for its popular children's program. This position is part-time and covers the period from September to June, specifically for afterschool programs and Saturday classes. The commitment is for the entire school year, which spans 10 months. Classes are scheduled after school from 3:15 PM to 6:15 PM for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade, located in Garden City and Dix Hills, Long Island, New York. Additionally, Saturday classes run from 8:30 AM to 1:45 PM for young children in 'Mommy and Me' classes, catering to ages 1 to 3 years and 5 to 8 years. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in both Spanish and English. While training will be provided in the use of the teaching methods employed by the program, prior experience in teaching school-aged children and/or preschool is preferred. The classes are designed to be engaging and high-energy, utilizing music, movement, circle time, stories, games, and arts and crafts to create an interactive learning environment. The teacher must be enthusiastic and capable of keeping the children active and engaged throughout the sessions. Most activities will take place on a carpeted area, so the ability to interact with children at their level is essential.
