About the position

¡Viva el Español! is a non-profit Spanish Language Program dedicated to teaching Spanish to children, teens, and adults in the Bay Area and Marin County. We offer a variety of programs including before and after school classes, summer camps, teen internships, private lessons, and adult classes. We are currently seeking part-time Spanish teachers who are passionate about sharing their language and culture with students. The position requires a commitment of 4 to 5 hours per week, primarily during the mornings from 7:30 to 8:30 am, and is available from September through mid-June 2025. The ideal candidates will be native Spanish speakers who can also communicate effectively in English. Previous experience working with children is desirable, and candidates should possess an enthusiastic and engaging teaching style. We provide a friendly and supportive work environment, along with all necessary curriculum and teaching supplies. Training will be provided, and teachers will receive continued support in the classroom, as well as assistance with communication with parents and schools. Compensation is competitive, ranging from $22 to $25 per hour, depending on experience, with additional benefits such as partial reimbursement for mileage driven between schools and a yearly salary review based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Spanish to elementary and middle school students in Piedmont, Lafayette, and Orinda school districts.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lessons that promote language immersion.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide feedback and support to students to enhance their learning experience.

Requirements

  • Fluent in Spanish (native speakers only).
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Availability from 7:30-8:30 am.
  • Willingness to commit to working from September through mid-June 2025.
  • Previous experience working with children is desirable.
  • Demonstrated initiative and strong work ethic.
  • Responsible, punctual, and dependable team player.
  • Organized and attentive to detail.
  • Reliable transportation.
