About the position

The Bedford Public Schools is seeking a passionate and qualified Spanish Teacher for a long-term substitute position from February to May 2025. The role involves inspiring students to learn the Spanish language and appreciate the cultures of Spanish-speaking communities. The ideal candidate will be familiar with ACTFL standards and possess a proficiency-oriented approach to language instruction, catering to a diverse range of learning styles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver dynamic lesson plans that cover a range of proficiency levels in Spanish language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and cultural understanding.
  • Assess student learning through exams, quizzes, projects, and other means, providing timely feedback to students and parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance, utilizing school-wide grading and reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and instructional strategies across grade levels and disciplines.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic expectations.
  • Stay current with developments in Spanish language instruction and education, attending professional development workshops and conferences as needed.
  • Participate in school-wide activities, such as faculty meetings, committees, and extracurricular events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • MA teaching certification in Spanish.
  • Proven experience teaching Spanish at the secondary school level, with a strong understanding of language acquisition theories and methodologies.
  • Fluency in Spanish and a deep appreciation for the cultures of Spanish-speaking people.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to create a positive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development as an educator.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and a National Criminal Background Check including fingerprinting.
  • SEI Endorsement.
