About the position

The Spanish and Music Teacher at Valley Inquiry Charter School will play a crucial role in delivering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program to students in grades K-5. This position is designed for a dedicated and innovative educator who is passionate about fostering inquiry-based learning and holistic development in a dynamic and supportive environment. The teacher will be responsible for lesson planning, collaborating with classroom teachers, grading, and delivering instruction in Spanish to students. The role requires proficiency in both English and Spanish, and while an active teaching license in Spanish education is not mandatory, a valid teaching license in any subject is preferred. The school is willing to assist in applying for a Charter Registry Teaching License to qualify candidates for teaching. The teacher will work two days a week, implementing the IB curriculum and ensuring a coherent and progressive educational experience that is student-centered. Responsibilities include developing detailed lesson plans that cater to diverse learning needs, conducting regular assessments of student performance, and providing constructive feedback. The teacher will also be responsible for creating a nurturing classroom environment that encourages active learning and collaboration among students. Regular communication with parents regarding their children's progress is essential, as is participation in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and stay current with IB practices. Additionally, the teacher will collaborate with other staff members to enhance the educational program and may plan and supervise extra-curricular activities such as class projects and field trips.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Spanish instruction to students in grades K-5, implementing the IB Primary Years Program curriculum.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant field.
  • Valid teaching certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in being bilingual in English & Spanish is required.
  • Previous Spanish teaching experience, especially in an IB or international education environment, is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in classroom management and curriculum development.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or an advanced teaching qualification is preferred.
  • IB certification or training in the IB Primary Years Program is highly desirable.
