About the position
As an educator with Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the lives of our students, whom we refer to as scholars. Your primary responsibility will be to establish a culture of high expectations within your classroom, ensuring that all scholars meet their projected individual growth goals. This involves developing and implementing lesson plans and classroom activities that are aligned with state standards and JRLA's instructional guidelines. You will assess students regularly and personalize classroom instruction based on assessment data and the unique needs of each scholar. Collaboration with team members is essential to identify and address unique student needs, thereby improving instructional practices throughout the school. At JRLA, we have created a blended-learning model specifically designed to raise achievement for historically underserved scholars. We support your creativity and encourage a rigorous, personalized, and well-rounded educational experience to meet the unique needs of each scholar in your classroom. Established in 2011 by NBA Star Jalen Rose and Co-Founder Michael Carter, JRLA is located on the Northwest side of Detroit, in the zip code where Jalen grew up. As an open enrollment, tuition-free public charter high school, JRLA provides a leadership-focused education to 420 scholars and nearly 900 alumni. Our mission is to empower all scholars to develop the strength of character, skills, and knowledge needed to matriculate, excel in, and graduate from college or a post-secondary program, ensuring they have the opportunities to be successful in the competitive world and take care of themselves and their loved ones. With a 97% high school graduation rate and 100% college and post-secondary acceptance, JRLA is a leader among open enrollment high schools in Detroit for college matriculation, boasting a 71% rate compared to a state average of 65%. We are authorized by Central Michigan University and managed by Phalen Leadership Academies (PLA), a transformative educational network dedicated to creating great schools and improving student outcomes. Responsibilities
- Establish a culture of high expectations that ensures that all scholars in the classroom meet their projected individual growth goals
- Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with state standards and JRLA instructional guidelines
- Assess students regularly and personalize classroom instruction based on assessment data and each scholar's needs
- Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Standard Teaching Credential required OR enrolled in an accredited teacher licensing program
- Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
- Strength in using data to drive instruction
