About the position

The Spd Instrument Technician II plays a crucial role in ensuring that medical instruments and equipment are properly decontaminated, sterilized, and prepared for patient care. This position involves operating various sterilization equipment, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating with service departments to ensure adequate supplies and equipment are available for daily operations. The technician is responsible for adhering to infection control standards and promoting safety in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminates, disinfects, prepares, sterilizes, stores, and distributes medical instruments, linen, equipment, and medical supplies.
  • Picks up contaminated supplies and equipment according to aseptic standards and returns them to Sterile Processing.
  • Disassembles, cleans, or decontaminates medical instruments, supplies, and equipment using approved disinfectants and detergents.
  • Assembles, inspects, tests, wraps, and dates medical instruments, supplies, and equipment, notifying the manager of needed repairs.
  • Operates EtO, Steam Steris, and Sterrad sterilizers, performing biological testing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Stages and provides delivery of processed items to user departments, managing durable medical equipment (DME) inventory tracking using SPM.
  • Maintains inventory of items within the department using Event Related concepts and reviews Operating Room Case Schedule for preference sheets.
  • Promotes and improves customer service to internal/external customers, demonstrating skills consistent with the organization's philosophy.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment, reporting any equipment problems to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Registered Central Service Technician Certificate within 3 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments for all Surgical Services.
  • Ability to run HiVac sterilizer, ultrasound, washer sterilizer, disinfector, and gravity displacement autoclaves.
  • Legible writing, strong verbal skills, and computer skills.
