About the position

The Special Assets Officer at First Citizens Community Bank is responsible for managing problem loan relationships and developing strategies to improve the bank's collateral position while maximizing returns. This role involves providing expertise in problem loan resolution, supporting Relationship Managers, and overseeing the bank's OREO (Other Real Estate Owned) portfolio. The officer will analyze credit situations, implement workout strategies, and ensure effective communication and collaboration across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with identified problem loan relationships to develop and implement exit or retention strategies.
• Provide expertise in problem loan resolution and support Relationship Managers and lending personnel.
• Analyze credit situations including risk exposure, loss estimates, and borrower financial conditions.
• Determine and implement appropriate workout strategies such as loan modification or foreclosure.
• Manage the bank's OREO portfolio, including securing interests in properties and enhancing asset value.
• Develop and maintain a personal program for knowledge in banking and management.
• Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal behavior with customers and employees.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting from a recognized college or university.
• Minimum of ten years of combined experience in commercial lending, loan administration, problem loan workout, and OREO management.
• Thorough knowledge of commercial loan underwriting, financial analysis, and lending laws.
• Proven track record in managing problem loan and OREO portfolios.
• Excellent negotiation and mediation skills.
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across all organizational levels.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.

Nice-to-haves

• MBA, JD with real estate expertise, or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with bank audit policies and procedures.
