About the position

The Special Assistant position in the Department of Health and Human Services focuses on supporting the Director of the 988 Behavioral Health Crisis Coordinating Office. This role involves a combination of administrative and technical duties aimed at optimizing business results and enhancing customer experience. The Special Assistant will assist in preparing materials for decision-making, develop plans and resource projections, conduct management studies, and manage administrative workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Special Assistant to the Director, 988 Behavioral Health Crisis Coordinating Officer, performing administrative and technical duties.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for the Director and Executive staff to facilitate decision-making.
  • Develop long and short-range plans, resource projections, and priorities under the guidance of Office of the Director staff.
  • Conduct or participate in complex management studies and projects affecting organizational structure and policy.
  • Carry out assigned special projects characterized by ambiguous subject matter.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative techniques in research and development of speeches and management of administrative workflow.
  • Assist with administrative functions by tracking correspondence to ensure timely responses.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Experience in program and project management, tracking, coordinating, and completing workplan priorities.
  • Utilization of a wide range of tools to assess behavioral health and crisis services program effectiveness.
  • Proficiency in software tools including Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Experience in developing technical reports related to behavioral health/crisis services.
