Special Civil Part Officers serve as officers of the court, tasked with a variety of responsibilities primarily related to landlord/tenant actions. Their duties include serving summonses and complaints, executing warrants for removal in eviction cases as mandated by the court, and serving post-judgment papers such as chattel and wage executions. They are also responsible for conducting sales of goods and chattels, remitting execution proceeds to judgment creditors, and performing any additional duties as directed by the court or required by statute, court rule, or administrative directive. This role is crucial in ensuring that court orders are executed efficiently and in accordance with legal standards. Candidates for the position must meet specific qualifications, including a minimum of three years of employment with a New Jersey Court, or in a managerial capacity with a process server or bonded collection agency in New Jersey. Alternatively, candidates may qualify if they have served as full-time law enforcement officers with investigative duties for at least three years. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with at least 30 credits in criminal justice, business law, or accounting is also required. Candidates must demonstrate their ability to perform or oversee accounting functions, maintain a clean credit history, and possess a reputation for honesty within the community. Additionally, they must be able to obtain a $100,000 bond and provide a business plan as per the relevant directive.
