About the position

The position involves providing a core program for learning handicapped students in accordance with state education code requirements. The educator will instruct children with learning disabilities using appropriate techniques and materials as outlined in each student's Individualized Education Program (I.E.P). Responsibilities include remediating specific learning disabilities, reevaluating student performance annually, and conducting standardized assessments triennially. The educator will also evaluate student performance, maintain records, and recommend revisions to the I.E.P. as necessary. Collaboration with other special education staff and regular classroom teachers is essential to ensure successful integration of students into the regular program. The role also includes directing instructional aides, communicating with parents, and creating a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a basic core program for learning handicapped students consistent with state education code requirements.
  • Instructs children with learning disabilities using appropriate techniques, equipment, instructional materials and supplies in accordance with the Individualized Education Program for each student.
  • Remediates identified specific learning disabilities.
  • Reevaluates student performance on goals annually and conducts standardized assessments for each student triennially.
  • Evaluates student performance, keeps up-to-date records of individual student's progress and recommends revision of the I.E.P., as appropriate; modifies I.E.P. accordingly.
  • Creates individualized goals to address all areas of student need based on assessment data and California Content Standards.
  • Works closely with other special education staff members in the assessment process, program planning and to ensure implementation of the I.E.P.
  • Directs instructional aide and classroom volunteers.
  • Communicates with parents regularly to coordinate efforts between school and home.
  • Collaborates with regular classroom teachers to provide successful integration of the students into the regular program.
  • Creates and maintains an effective learning environment emphasizing positive self-image and self-help activities.
  • Implements classroom behavior management techniques and individualized behavior support plans as needed.
  • Responsible for timelines, completion of IEP paperwork, and overall IEP compliance for all students on caseload.

Requirements

  • Educational Specialist Instruction Credential- Extensive Support Needs Credential with Autism certificate.
  • CLAD certification.
  • Bachelor's degree, including all courses to meet credential requirements.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
