About the position

The Special Education Aide position at Chippewa Valley Schools is a temporary role focused on supporting teachers and students in a special education environment. The aide will assist in providing a safe and secure learning experience for special education children, ensuring their individual needs are met while maintaining confidentiality. This role involves direct interaction with students, helping them with academic tasks, behavior management, and personal needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist one-on-one, small groups, or classroom with students under the supervision of the teacher as directed.
• Assist teacher with completing academic tasks.
• Engage students with instructional activities developed by the teacher, including reading, writing, math, spelling, and life skills.
• Manage student behavior by implementing behavior management plans.
• Monitor, intervene, and redirect student behaviors as needed.
• Prevent and deescalate student behavior.
• Assist students with personal needs, including hygiene, diapering, toileting, and clothing.
• Familiarize with individual student requirements and behavior plans.
• Collect data related to behavior, academics, and instruction.
• Participate in professional development activities.
• Communicate with community, staff, and students to answer questions and disseminate information.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working with children required; experience with special education students preferred.
• Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations required.
• Good communication skills required.
• Adaptability to learn required.
• Patience required.
• Ability to adapt to various teaching skills required.
• Ability to handle emotional and physical challenges required.
• Ability to follow through with outlined behavioral management plans required.

Nice-to-haves
