About the position

The Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District is seeking dedicated Special Education Paraprofessionals to provide essential support in special education classrooms. The role involves offering 1:1 academic, social, emotional, and behavioral assistance to students with disabilities, particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Paraprofessionals will collaborate with teachers to create an inclusive educational environment that meets the diverse needs of all students.

Responsibilities

  • Supports direct instruction to children individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings
  • Assists with classroom activities
  • Supervises students and the completion of instructional materials
  • Manages individual and classroom behavior
  • Supervises students on field trip activities
  • Performs other support services and related duties as requested by the Building Principal
  • Implements behavior plans and assists with academic instruction as supported by the special education teacher
  • Facilitates appropriate social interactions
  • Observes and records academic, behavioral, and social data to measure progress
  • Provides support in crisis situations using district-approved safety/restraint protocol when necessary

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate of Arts or Science Degree or higher, or 60 undergraduate college credits
  • Paraprofessional Certification
  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Experience working with people with autism
  • Entry level position

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree with Educator Licensure
  • Experience working with students in various education settings
