The Special Education Teacher for Emotional Disturbance (ED) will be responsible for providing specialized instruction to students in grades K-2 who have been identified with emotional disturbances. This position requires a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an LBS1 endorsement. The teacher will work collaboratively with both special education and general education staff to ensure that the educational needs of students are met according to their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). The role involves developing comprehensive IEPs, including behavior intervention plans, and providing consultation and training to teachers and parents regarding strategies to support students experiencing learning or behavioral challenges. The teacher will be expected to model effective teaching strategies that cater to the diverse learning styles of students. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are essential, as the teacher will need to assess students informally and address their learning and behavioral needs using documented data. The position also requires strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively collaborate with general education teachers, students, parents, and staff. The teacher will report directly to the building principal and will be expected to fulfill other duties as assigned. This position is contracted for 180 days, aligning with the school year, and includes a sign-on bonus for new hires, structured in two installments. Current employees in this role will receive a stipend as part of their compensation package. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in fostering an inclusive educational environment that supports the academic and emotional growth of students with special needs.
