The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides quality services to special education students from kindergarten through grade 12. This role is crucial in ensuring that students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities receive the support they need to thrive in an educational environment. The teacher is committed to team participation in planning and implementing student programs, which includes special instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation with general education staff. In this position, the teacher will prepare student education plans in consultation with parents and department team members, ensuring that each plan is tailored to meet the individual needs of the students. The teacher will design instruction that parallels the general education curriculum, providing both individual and small group instruction. Additionally, the teacher will assist parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals in developing educational plans that promote the educational, physical, and social development of students. The Special Education Teacher will also serve as the coordinator of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) implementation, working closely with general education staff to monitor student progress and participate in the review and revision of IEPs as appropriate. Maintaining accurate student records and mentoring teaching assistants who support students with disabilities are also key responsibilities. The teacher will support students in preparing for grade transitions and life skills, assess students' skills and educational needs, and communicate effectively with students and their parents to maintain positive relationships.
