About the position

The Special Education ACE Teacher at Carroll Senior High School is responsible for providing specialized educational support to students with diverse learning needs. This role is designed to create a nurturing and effective learning environment that fosters the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of special education students. The teacher will develop and modify curricula tailored to meet the individual abilities of each student, ensuring that learning activities are engaging and accessible. This position may involve working in various capacities, including self-contained classrooms, team teaching, departmental settings, or itinerant roles, depending on the assignment. In addition to lesson planning and curriculum development, the teacher will prepare instructional materials that align with the students' educational goals. The role requires a deep understanding of the unique needs of special education students, as well as the ability to implement best practices in instruction, particularly in online learning environments. The teacher will also be responsible for participating in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process, contributing to the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, enabling them to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. They will also be adept at using various technology applications to enhance learning and support students in navigating technology-related challenges. This position is crucial in ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed academically and socially, preparing them for lifelong success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential.
  • Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and instructional materials to match student ability levels.
  • Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
  • Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process.
  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms.
  • Support students with computer set-up, navigation, and technology issues.
  • Maintain consistent contact with students, parents, and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required Special Education endorsements and any content certification required for the position.
  • Valid Texas ESL certification.
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning.
  • Strong knowledge of Internet and web-related technology.
  • Knowledge of the ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting process and implementation.
  • Ability to instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships and maintain consistent contact with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Experience in student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.
