About the position

The Special Education Behavior Intervention Paraeducator position is designed to assist in delivering instructional services to eligible students at Deer Park Middle School. The role involves working under the guidance of certified staff to provide individualized instruction, maintain student discipline, prepare educational materials, and support students in various settings, both indoors and outdoors.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students individually or in small groups under the direction of certificated staff.
  • Adapt lessons and activities with teacher approval to supplement classroom instruction.
  • Assist and instruct students in computer usage and operation.
  • Maintain student discipline and promote positive behavior.
  • Score standardized classroom-based assessments.
  • Prepare materials and supplies for supplemental activities.
  • Develop and maintain student records as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with program audits and maintain health and safety standards.
  • Supervise classroom, building, and outdoor activities.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and respect for diversity among all community members.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the building principal.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment, hold an associate degree or higher, or have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Current first aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain promptly.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management.
  • Knowledge of teaching techniques that meet diverse student needs.
  • Classroom management skills and ability to differentiate instruction.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
