About the position
The Special Education Classroom Assistant will provide direct support to students with special needs in the David Douglas School District. This role focuses on assisting students from Kindergarten to 12th grade with their academic and behavioral development in a classroom setting, ensuring a positive learning environment and encouraging student engagement.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or group support to students in special education programs.
- Assist with classroom management and help implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Support students with varying behavioral needs, including personal care tasks such as toileting and diapering when necessary.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Encourage student participation and engagement in classroom activities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; 60+ college credits preferred.
- Prior classroom experience is a plus.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and LiveScan.
- Negative TB test required.
- Experience in ABA or SPED: 1 year (Required).
Nice-to-haves
- Valid Paraprofessional Certification certification.
- Experience in Special education.
