About the position

The Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher will play a crucial role in delivering tailored educational content to students with diverse learning needs within a collaborative classroom environment. This position requires a highly qualified educator who is adept at implementing individualized behavioral intervention plans and managing classroom dynamics effectively. The teacher will work closely with a general education teacher to co-teach and ensure that all students receive the necessary accommodations to thrive academically. In this role, the teacher will be responsible for developing and executing lesson plans that cater to the unique needs of each student, utilizing research-based instructional strategies and methodologies. The teacher will also be expected to analyze both formative and summative assessment data to inform instructional practices and make necessary adjustments to meet the evolving needs of students. Collaboration with colleagues is essential to enhance instructional practices and improve student outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education, particularly in mild disabilities, and will be committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment that respects and values the diverse backgrounds of all students. The teacher will also engage with families to support student learning and development, ensuring that communication is clear and effective. This position is based at Jackson Middle School and is a full-time role, requiring a commitment to the academic and social growth of students with special needs. The teacher will report directly to the Principal and the Special Education Supervisor, working under the guidance of the Director of Special Education.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specific course content in a differentiated collaborative model.
  • Implement individual behavioral intervention plans effectively.
  • Co-teach with general education teachers to support student learning.
  • Make student-specific accommodations to meet diverse needs.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities.
  • Utilize research-based instructional strategies and materials for special education services.
  • Analyze formative and summative data to guide instruction and differentiate teaching methods.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Engage with families and students from diverse backgrounds to support their educational journey.

Requirements

  • State of Indiana Special Education License in Mild Disabilities/Intervention.
  • Must be Highly Qualified as per state standards.
  • History of timely and accurate completion of IEPs.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in providing differentiated instruction for struggling students.
  • Experience using formative assessments to guide reading instruction.
  • No recent recommendations for Probation Assistance on evaluations.
  • Experience in developing and implementing lesson plans and classroom management strategies.
  • Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies and methodologies for special education.
  • Experience in analyzing student data to inform instructional decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience dealing with families and students from diverse economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Teaching experience in a collaborative classroom setting.
