About the position

The Special Education Dispute Resolution Coordinator (Project Manager III) at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is responsible for overseeing the Special Education Mediation Program, which provides a dispute resolution option for parents and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) regarding special education programs for students with disabilities. This role involves managing mediation requests, assigning mediators, conducting training, and providing technical assistance related to special education mediation and due process hearing programs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the special education mediation program, including mediator contracts and compliance with IDEA requirements.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain contracts for special education legal professionals.
  • Track and recommend the annual operating budget for special education legal needs.
  • Collaborate with purchasing staff for professional services and invoice processing.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding the IDEA dispute resolution process.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • At least six years of experience in project management or as a legal assistant in relevant areas.
  • Experience with alternative dispute resolution methods is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of contracting and procurement regulations, and accounting principles.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Public Information Request (PIR) functions.
  • Experience with federal or local government.
  • Certified Texas Contract Manager (CTCM) certification.
