About the position

The Special Education Early Childhood Teacher at Washoe County School District is responsible for providing educational services to children with disabilities aged three to five years. Under the general supervision of an administrator, the teacher will implement the school board policy regarding the educational curriculum and will be assigned a caseload of students. The teacher will administer the district curriculum aligned with Common Core State Standards and ensure that Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are effectively implemented. This role requires designing and implementing effective lesson plans, conducting assessments, and analyzing student progress while maintaining compliance with assessment regulations and guidelines. The teacher will create a respectful and positive classroom environment that promotes learning and manages student behavior effectively. They will engage students in learning through various instructional strategies, including discussion and questioning techniques, and will demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to student needs. The teacher will also coordinate with other service staff to provide comprehensive instruction and support for students with disabilities. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the teacher will maintain accurate records of student progress and IEPs, reflecting professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions with students, parents, and colleagues. The position may involve participation in a professional community and collaboration with an education/assessment team to develop and monitor individual objectives for students. The teacher may also be assigned to specialized programs within the Special Education umbrella, which requires adherence to the same duties and responsibilities outlined above.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a professional community and reflect on teaching practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Nevada teaching license in the relevant subject area/grade level.
  • Knowledge of child development and characteristics of students with disabilities.
  • Effective teaching skills and planning/organizing abilities.
  • Skill in creating an effective learning environment and maintaining pupil behavior standards.
  • Effective utilization of technology in instruction and data-based decision making.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in early childhood education or special education programs.
