About the position

The Special Education Instructor position at Brightmont Academy focuses on providing personalized, one-on-one learning experiences for students in grades 1-12 who face challenges in traditional educational settings. The role emphasizes a tailored approach to meet each student's unique learning style and needs, utilizing an accredited curriculum and fostering an environment that promotes academic, social, and life skills development. The instructor will work closely with students to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and support their journey towards graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate 'whole student' pedagogy by being aware of each student's learning style, interests, and special needs.
  • Employ advanced instructional methods and adjust strategies based on assessments, standards, and goals to meet learning needs.
  • Cultivate a learning relationship that encourages student growth through positive and effective motivation.
  • Demonstrate self-initiative and creative thinking to make instruction engaging and enjoyable.
  • Connect prior knowledge with new ideas to help students understand the whole picture.
  • Increase students' academic confidence and engagement through positive interactions.
  • Be part of the team and create an organizational culture that promotes enjoyable learning experiences.
  • Demonstrate proactive leadership by evaluating and adjusting students' goals and instruction as needed.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of teaching objectives and core concepts.
  • Maintain professionalism in all communications on campus and respect student confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Must have an LBS1 Certification.
  • 4-year Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with technology resources, tools, and curricula.
  • Experience using G-Suite and Chromebooks.
  • Administrative skills for lesson coverage, grades, and pacing progress.
  • Positive professional communication skills: written, verbal, and non-verbal.
  • Ability to provide quality and effective instructional strategies.
  • Must pass a federal background screening.
  • Possess a personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in ASD, ED, and/or SLD programs.
