About the position

The Special Education Teacher for Learning Disabilities (LD), Behavioral Disorders (BD), Intellectual Disabilities (ID), and Developmental Disabilities (DD) with a focus on Autism at New Martinsville School is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. This role involves developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique requirements, ensuring that they receive the necessary accommodations and modifications to succeed academically and socially. The teacher will collaborate with parents, school staff, and other professionals to create a supportive learning environment that fosters growth and development for students with autism and other special needs. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the Special Education Teacher will assess students' progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding student achievements and challenges. The teacher will also participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and autism support. This position requires a commitment to advocating for students' rights and promoting an inclusive school culture that values diversity and individual differences. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of special education laws and regulations, as well as effective strategies for teaching students with autism and other disabilities. The teacher will be expected to create engaging lesson plans that accommodate various learning styles and abilities, utilizing a range of instructional techniques and resources to enhance student learning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide specialized instruction to students with learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, and developmental disabilities.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, adjusting instruction as needed to meet individual goals.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals to support student learning and development.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education and autism support.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and growth.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education with endorsements for LD, BD, ID, DD, and Autism.
  • Experience working with students with autism and other special needs in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws and regulations.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective IEPs and instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with students, parents, and staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with behavior management techniques and strategies for students with autism.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and resources for special education.
  • Ability to provide training and support to general education teachers regarding inclusion practices.
