About the position

The Special Education Teacher is a state-certified educator responsible for delivering course content in an online environment, focusing on the individual needs of students as defined by their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role involves providing instruction, support, and guidance to students and parents, ensuring compliance with special education requirements, and fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity within the educational framework.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specific course content in an online environment.
  • Provide instruction, support, and guidance to students and parents.
  • Manage the learning process and focus on individual student needs as defined by IEPs.
  • Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure appropriate therapies are provided.
  • Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other required documentation.
  • Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP meetings.
  • Use provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
  • Make modifications to lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
  • Ensure inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom.
  • Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress towards IEP goals.
  • Document all contact with parents and interventions with students.
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed.
  • Provide engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
  • Maintain a grade book ensuring academic integrity and alert administrators to concerns about student performance.
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and communicate regularly with students and learning coaches.
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment.
  • Travel up to 20% for professional development and student testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Active state teaching license
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
