About the position

The Special Education Middle School Teacher is a state-certified educator responsible for delivering course content in an online environment tailored to students with special needs. This role involves providing instruction, support, and guidance while managing the learning process according to each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The teacher collaborates with students, parents, and related service staff to ensure compliance and effective learning outcomes, fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity within the educational framework.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specific course content in an online environment for students with special needs.
  • Provide instruction, support, and guidance to students as defined by their IEPs.
  • Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure appropriate therapies are provided.
  • Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other required documentation.
  • Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP meetings.
  • Utilize resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
  • Modify Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
  • Ensure student inclusion and success in the general education classroom.
  • Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress towards IEP goals.
  • Document all contact with parents and interventions with students.
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed.
  • Provide engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
  • Maintain a grade book and ensure student academic integrity.
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and communicate regularly with students and learning coaches.
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues in a virtual environment.
  • Travel up to 20% for professional development and student testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Active state teaching license in Oklahoma.
  • Ability to clear required background check.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and interpret student data.
  • Receptive to coaching and feedback from administrators.
  • Ability to adapt to changes for excellent student outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience working with middle school age group.
  • Experience supporting adults and children in technology use.
  • Experience teaching online or in a brick-and-mortar environment.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms.
