The Special Education Operations Coordinator plays a crucial role in providing district-wide leadership in special education, ensuring that all students from preschool through adult transition programs receive the appropriate support and services they need to succeed. This position involves collaborating with school sites, administrators, case managers, and specialists to develop and implement effective educational programs tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities. The coordinator will attend and manage complex Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, ensuring that all team members are supported and that the meetings are productive and focused on student outcomes. In addition to managing IEP meetings, the coordinator will conduct and arrange both formal and informal assessments of students to help develop individualized programs and services. This includes conducting educationally related mental health assessments and making recommendations for appropriate mental health services for students who exhibit significant social-emotional and behavioral needs. The coordinator will also provide expert assistance and legal updates to administrators and special education staff regarding the interpretation of federal, state, and education code laws and regulations that govern special education. Training is a key component of this role, as the coordinator will provide professional development for school staff in areas such as prevention and proactive pre-referral activities, educationally related mental health services, and behavioral support systems. The coordinator will also be responsible for planning, coordinating, and developing social-emotional and behavioral supports for students, assisting in the creation of 504 plans, IEPs, behavior supports, transition plans, and counseling/mental health programs. This position is essential for fostering an inclusive educational environment that promotes the academic success and well-being of all students.
