About the position

The Special Education Para - Support Center position at Firgrove Elementary involves providing academic instruction to students with a variety of disabilities, ranging from severe to profound. The program offers modified curriculum instruction that may include functional academics, daily living skills, prevocational/vocational skills, behavior skills, and social skills. The role requires flexibility, as the paraeducator may work primarily with one student and may need to ride the bus. The position is scheduled for Monday to Friday from 8:05 AM to 3:32 PM, totaling 6.95 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid break.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic instruction to students with disabilities.
  • Assist in implementing modified curriculum instruction.
  • Support students in functional academics and daily living skills.
  • Facilitate prevocational/vocational skills development.
  • Promote behavior and social skills among students.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen years of age.
  • Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Fulfill one of the following conditions: hold an associate degree or higher, earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher, score 455 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment, score 220 or higher on the Pearson Paraprofessional assessment, score 65% or higher on The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program, or complete an apprenticeship as a paraeducator.
