About the position
The Special Education Paraprofessional at John Ashley Kindergarten School will work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning. The role involves alerting the teacher of any problems or special information about students, participating in in-service training programs as assigned, and guiding independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher. The paraprofessional will relate to students within the classroom in a manner consistent with the teacher's philosophy in the area of discipline and instruction. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. This position is a shared paraprofessional role, responsible for supporting two students who are in the same classroom.
Responsibilities
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning.
- Alert the teacher of any problems or special information about students.
- Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher.
- Relate to students within the classroom in a manner consistent with the teacher's philosophy in the area of discipline and instruction.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
- Associates Degree or 48 college credits attained or Workkeys, Associate degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
- Experience working with children who have social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities is a plus.
