About the position

The Special Education Preschool Teacher will work under the direction of a site administrator and the Director of Special Education to provide comprehensive instruction, assessment, and program planning for special education students. This role focuses on students with primary learning disabilities, mild to moderate mental retardation, attention deficit disorders, and emotional disabilities. The teacher will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating student progress and behavior, ensuring that each child receives the support they need to thrive in their educational environment. In addition to direct instruction, the teacher will research, obtain, and provide instructional materials tailored to the needs of special education services. They will serve as an informational resource for students, parents, and district personnel, fostering a collaborative approach to education. The position involves working within a pull-out Learning Center environment as well as within the general education classroom, promoting an inclusive atmosphere that benefits all students. This role is part-time, with a .6 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) commitment, and is based at Sierra Hills School. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that prepares students to become contributing global citizens in the 21st century. Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and assessment for special education students with various disabilities.
  • Plan and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress and behavior regularly.
  • Research and obtain instructional materials for special education services.
  • Serve as an informational resource for students, parents, and district personnel.
  • Work within a pull-out Learning Center environment and general education classrooms.

Requirements

  • Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) credential or valid California credential authorizing service in the appropriate grade level and/or subject area.
  • Education Specialist Instruction Credential - Mild/Moderate Disabilities or Specialist Instruction Credential - Special Education/Learning Handicapped.
  • Appropriate Preschool certification.
  • CLAD/CTEL or equivalent certification.
  • 'Highly Qualified Teacher' status.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with students with emotional disabilities.
  • Familiarity with inclusive education practices.
  • Strong communication skills with parents and staff.
