About the position

We are Aspire Living & Learning, a non-profit human services agency making a meaningful difference in the lives of adults and children with autism and other disabilities. The Special Education Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in assisting in the daily operations of Aspire Living & Learning. This position is full-time, with hours from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and offers a salary range of $90,000 to $115,000 annually. In this role, you will collaborate with building administration to establish relationships and integrate students into the general education setting. You will develop and implement effective systems for program-level needs, attend all Pupil Planning Team (PPT) meetings as required, and manage parent concerns while fostering positive school/home relationships. Supporting teachers in meeting classroom needs and collaborating with district administration to investigate and implement consequences according to policy will also be key responsibilities. Additionally, you will initiate and develop ongoing program-wide activities, handle student discipline promptly and respectfully, oversee the school schedule, support the matriculation of new students into the program, coordinate curriculum-based measures and benchmark assessments, and ensure students have access to grade-level curricular materials. You will also provide support and training for staff in instructional curricula and/or assessment tools, coordinate safety and emergency procedures, manage student transportation, procure supplies for staff, ensure timely completion and distribution of progress reports to parents, and foster a positive workplace to enhance team morale and productivity. Participation in relevant training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge is also expected, along with performing any additional job responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Manage parent concerns and foster positive school/home relationships.
  • Support Teachers in meeting classroom needs.
  • Collaborate with district administration to investigate and implement consequences according to policy.
  • Initiate and develop ongoing program wide activities.
  • Handle student discipline promptly and respectfully, ensuring appropriate documentation as required.
  • Oversee the school schedule and communicate changes to staff as needed.
  • Support matriculation for new students into the program, including PPT involvement.
  • Coordinate curriculum-based measure and benchmark assessments.
  • Ensure students have access to grade-level curricular materials.
  • Provide support and training for staff in instructional curricula and/or assessment tools.
  • Coordinate safety and emergency procedures.
  • Manage student transportation, including communication with transportation services and addressing issues.
  • Procure supplies for staff in a timely manner.
  • Ensure timely completion and distribution of progress reports to parents.
  • Foster a positive workplace to enhance team morale and productivity.
  • Participate in relevant training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Perform any additional job responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships.

Requirements

  • Connecticut Educator certification in the areas of administration/supervision AND Special Education, School Psychology or School Counselor.
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Preferred knowledge of Direct Instruction, Precision Teaching and basic concepts of applied behavior analysis.
  • Familiarity with instructional curricula.
  • Team player with strong organization skills.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Satisfactory background checks.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Direct Instruction and Precision Teaching.
  • Basic concepts of applied behavior analysis.
