About the position

We are looking for a dynamic Special Education Support Teacher to be a part of a collaborative team that works tirelessly in the remediation and acceleration of students in middle and high school. The ideal candidate must have the ability to support both general education and special education students through the co-teach model, collaborate with general education and special education teachers, as well as teach basic reading and/or math skills. Strong classroom management and the ability to differentiate instruction is a must. Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in the special education classrooms or learning centers.
  • Provide individual or small group instruction to students according to established individual education plans.
  • Support behavior management program and follow individualized education plans.
  • Prepare and assist in instructing of students in a variety of supplementary instructional materials such as audio/visual aids, etc.
  • Participate in staff development programs as directed.
  • Uphold GPA culture at all times.
  • Explain policies and procedures to students, staff, parents and the public.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, fax machine, and copier; prepare masters for photo copying and duplicate materials.
  • Contact parents to set up or confirm meetings.
  • Supervise students before and after school, during transitions to each class and during lunch as outlined by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to high school graduation and one year of recent, full-time or equivalent part-time paid office clerical experience.
  • Graduation from a recognized college with an associate or bachelor's degree with business, secretarial, or related major may be substituted for the experience requirement.
  • Completed live scan upon hire and current negative TB Test and CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Read, write and speak the English and Spanish language when applicable to your position.

Nice-to-haves

  • CBEST/Emergency 30-day substitute teaching permit highly recommended.
