About the position

The Special Education Teacher position at Clarendon School District is designed for individuals who are passionate about teaching students with special needs, particularly in the areas of literacy and math. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing students in accordance with state licensure and certification requirements, as well as the specific subject matter assigned by the building Principal. In this position, the teacher will establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures to maintain order among students. A strong emphasis will be placed on classroom management skills, ensuring that the learning environment is conducive to student success. The teacher will also be expected to maintain a cooperative relationship with other staff members, contributing to a positive school culture. Attendance is critical, with a goal of maintaining a 95% attendance rate annually to maximize student learning opportunities. The teacher will prepare materials and classrooms for class activities, establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives effectively to students. This full-time position is not only focused on academic instruction but also includes coaching responsibilities, which may involve leading sports or extracurricular activities, thereby promoting physical education and teamwork among students.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students in Special Education with a focus on literacy and math according to state licensure and certification requirements.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
  • Demonstrate proficient classroom management skills.
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with other staff members.
  • Achieve a high individual attendance rate (goal being 95% or above annually).
  • Follow all building procedures regarding attendance and punctuality, keeping the Principal informed.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives to students.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed teacher in special education or willing to take an Alternative Licensure Plan to complete a special education degree.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
