About the position

Haverhill Public Schools is seeking a special education moderate disability teacher for academic support at Whittier Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year. The position is responsible for providing direct services to children in integrated and pullout settings as determined by IEPs, developing modifications to assist students in regular classrooms, and participating as a member of the evaluation team when appropriate. The teacher will also evaluate children who have been referred, develop appropriate reports and IEPs, train classroom Educational Support Personnel, and work cooperatively with other personnel and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct services for children in integrated and pullout settings as determined by IEP's.
  • Develops modifications to assist students in the regular classrooms.
  • Participates as a member of the evaluation team when appropriate.
  • Evaluates children who have been referred, developing appropriate reports and IEP's as required.
  • Trains classroom Educational Support Personnel as necessary.
  • Coordinates and arranges team meeting process if requested.
  • Works cooperatively with other personnel and parents.
  • Designs units of instruction with measurable outcomes and challenging tasks.
  • Administers a variety of informal and formal methods and assessments.
  • Analyzes assessment data to improve student learning.
  • Defines high expectations for the quality of student work.
  • Creates a safe physical and intellectual environment for learning.
  • Engages families in supporting student learning.
  • Reflects on the effectiveness of lessons and interactions with students.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in developing standards-based units.

Requirements

  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education as a Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities - 5-12.
  • SEI Endorsement required.
  • Previous teaching and/or successful experience working with Children with Moderate Special Needs - preferred.
  • Proficiency in relevant content areas as evidenced through transcripts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Evidence of academic accomplishment and strength in content areas.
