About the position

The position involves working collaboratively with parents, students, and regular education teachers to enhance student achievement in alignment with the school's mission and vision. The role is crucial in ensuring compliance with Federal and State Regulations while providing specialized support to students with disabilities. The individual will be responsible for preparing and conducting parent and student conferences, delivering instruction in various modalities, and collecting data to monitor student progress. This includes planning and conducting appointments with parents, assisting regular education teachers with specially designed instruction, and participating in monthly outings to foster community engagement. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the position requires monitoring compliance with educational standards and student progress. The individual will proctor standardized tests, complete quarterly progress reports, and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students on their caseload. This includes developing and implementing IEPs with measurable goals, collecting and reporting progress monitoring data, and conducting IEP meetings within specified timelines. The role also involves maintaining accurate special education data and ensuring compliance with regulations regarding reevaluations and transition plans for students of transition age. Effective communication is essential in this role, as the individual will need to collaborate with regular education teachers and administrators, participate in team meetings, and respond promptly to communications. The position may also require participation in state-specific training and professional development opportunities, which may involve travel. Overall, the role is designed to support the educational needs of students with disabilities while fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for and conducts parent and student conferencing according to school policy.
  • Delivers student instruction in various modalities as instituted by the school and assigned program.
  • Collects data and appropriate work samples for student progress monitoring.
  • Plans and conducts appointments with parents as needed.
  • Assists regular education teachers with specially designed instruction when necessary.
  • Participates in monthly outings to encourage community engagement.
  • Provides support for ESE student achievement in the general class through training teachers and assisting with the implementation of school inclusion plans.
  • Arranges for and assists with training for inclusionary practices.
  • Acts as an informational liaison for inclusion as appropriate.
  • Assists with planning for classroom and testing accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Models strategies for inclusionary practices as appropriate.
  • Provides assistance with developing and adapting curriculum materials and educational practices to meet the needs of students and teachers.
  • Collaborates with regular education teachers to monitor student progress and compliance.
  • Proctors standardized tests and completes student progress reports quarterly.
  • Maintains IEPs, Quarterly Reports, and Progress Monitoring for caseload.
  • Develops and implements IEPs with measurable goals using Progress Monitoring.
  • Collects and reports progress monitoring data for all student goals.
  • Conducts IEP meetings within timelines and makes data-driven instructional decisions to improve student outcomes.
  • Maintains accurate and compliant special education data and completes reevaluations in accordance with regulations.
  • Maintains communication with Related Service Providers and Case Managers to ensure compliance with the provision of services.
  • Administers diagnostic assessments as needed and obtains compliant special education student files.
  • Communicates with regular education teachers and administrators when necessary and participates in weekly team meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • State Certified in Special Education and Highly Qualified (HQ) status in the subject areas and grades assigned.
  • Certified in at least two areas of Exceptional Education, preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
  • Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.
  • Command of grades/subject-specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background checks.
