About the position

The Teacher-Primary position at Indian River Academy is designed for educators who are passionate about teaching students in grades 1, 2, and 3. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the prescribed curriculum, particularly in emergent and early literacy, as well as a solid grasp of child growth and development. Teachers will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the characteristics of students within the assigned age group, ensuring that they can cater to the diverse learning needs of their students. In addition to curriculum knowledge, candidates must possess a basic understanding of current technology and be able to apply varied teaching methods to engage students effectively. The role also demands an awareness of current trends, research, and best practices in education, allowing teachers to implement innovative strategies in their classrooms. Teachers will be responsible for addressing problems, concerns, and emotional distress among students with sensitivity and tact, fostering a supportive learning environment. Effective communication is crucial in this role, as teachers will need to interact with students, parents, and colleagues both orally and in writing. Planning, establishing priorities, and implementing activities for maximum effectiveness are essential skills for this position. Teachers will also be tasked with assessing student achievement levels, analyzing test results, and prescribing actions for improvement. Maintaining appropriate student supervision to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment is a key responsibility, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and administrators. Knowledge of Florida Educator Accomplished Practices and Teacher Competencies is also required to meet the standards of the educational system.

Requirements

  • Understanding of child growth and development.
  • Basic understanding of current technology.
  • Ability to use varied teaching methods.
  • Knowledge of current trends, research, and best practices in education.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with students and parents.
  • Ability to assess student achievement effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience teaching in the assigned grade level/subject area.
