About the position

The Special Education Teacher at Southwest West Central Service Cooperative (SWWC) will play a crucial role in identifying, designing, evaluating, and providing individualized educational instruction and programming for a small caseload of special education students. This position is based at the ELC - New London, starting with the 2024-2025 school year. The teacher will work closely with paraprofessional support in the classroom, ensuring that each student's unique educational needs are met. SWWC is committed to professional development, offering specific training related to Setting IV, New Teacher Center Coaching, and collaboration with Due Process Specialist staff to enhance the educational experience for both teachers and students. The teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing appropriate educational and behavioral programs tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of the students. This includes participating in and conducting evaluations and observations to determine the special education eligibility of students placed in the program. The teacher will also conduct periodic assessments to monitor educational progress and will actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings for students in the program. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support the educational environment and student success.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement appropriate educational and/or behavioral programs for students to meet specific needs and goals.
  • Participate and conduct evaluations and observations to determine special education eligibility of students.
  • Conduct periodic assessments to determine educational progress of students.
  • Conduct and/or participate in IEP meetings for students in the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Emotional/Behavior Disorder (E/BD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD) licensure from MDE preferred, but not necessary if willing or in the process of getting licensure.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a self-contained classroom setting.
  • Familiarity with special education laws and regulations.
