About the position

Merakey is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our Middle and High School in Leechburg, PA. This full-time position offers an opportunity to earn up to $57,000 annually, along with a $3,000 sign-on bonus. The role involves working a traditional 10-month school year, with paid summers off, and additional hours and compensation available during the Extended School Year (ESY) program. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters learning and growth.
  • Collaborate with other educators and support staff to ensure the best outcomes for students.
  • Monitor and assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and behavior.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 18 credits in Special Education and 6 credits in Education Theory.
  • Possession of a Pennsylvania Special Education certificate or a Pennsylvania Private Academic certification with the ability to attain public certification within one year from the date of hire.
  • 1-3 years of experience working with students with autism or emotional support, which can include student teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop classroom strategies that promote an effective teaching and learning environment.
  • Must obtain and maintain agency physical management certification credentials.
