About the position

Rivermont Schools, located in Virginia Beach, VA, is seeking a qualified Special Education Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is integral to the success of our students, providing academic instruction and mentoring in a collaborative team environment. The Special Education Teacher will work under the supervision of the Principal, Assistant Principal, and BCBA/BCaBA, overseeing the classroom team and ensuring that the individual curriculum and self-care needs of students are met. Candidates interested in provisional licensure must meet all requirements and be willing to complete the necessary VDOE coursework within 90 school days to become provisionally licensed. The role requires a commitment to developing and implementing appropriate educational services for students with disabilities. The ideal candidate will possess a Virginia Department of Education License, be License Eligible, or Provisional License Eligible, and have at least three years of teaching experience with children who have behavior or learning disorders. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude are essential for success in this role. A valid Virginia Driver's License is preferred but not mandatory. Special Education Teachers at Rivermont Schools will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and implement services tailored to the needs of students. They will utilize research-based strategies to foster higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills, assess student mastery of content, and maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations. Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team to develop/design and implement appropriate services.
  • Provide appropriate guidance, leadership, and direction to staff within the classroom.
  • Use research-based classroom strategies that are grounded in higher-order thinking, problem-solving, and real-world connections for all students.
  • Evaluate and assess student mastery of content to make instructional decisions.
  • Communicate student achievements and progress to students, parents, and others.
  • Assist in the collection of quality indicator data metrics.
  • Maintain student confidentiality per agency policy, FERPA/HIPAA privacy rule regulations, and student/counselor confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Must complete the VDOE required coursework within 90 school days to become eligible for provisional licensure.
  • Virginia Department of Education License, License Eligible, or Provisional License Eligible.
  • Three (3) years teaching experience working with children with behavior/learning disorders is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • A positive can-do attitude.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with students diagnosed with autism or emotional/behavioral disorders.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic educational programs.
