About the position

The Special Education Teacher for Grades 6-8 at Alexander Hamilton Academy will be responsible for providing specialized instruction to students with disabilities in a supportive and inclusive environment. This role requires a deep understanding of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) and the Common Core Standards, as well as the ability to implement mandated state testing and content area curriculum effectively. The teacher will work closely with students who have learning disabilities, ensuring that they receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially. In addition to instructional duties, the Special Education Teacher will collaborate with other staff members, families, and community resources to create a comprehensive support system for students. This includes developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs and monitoring their progress towards achieving educational goals. The teacher will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of student performance and communicating effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child's progress and any concerns that may arise. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues. They should demonstrate a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment that encourages student participation and growth. The position is set to begin on September 1, 2024, and is contingent upon budget availability. This role is crucial in ensuring that students with disabilities receive the support they need to succeed in their educational journey, and the teacher will play a vital role in advocating for their needs within the school community.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • New Jersey Instructional Certificate.
  • New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification or Teacher of the Handicapped Certification.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NJCCCS, the Common Core Standards, and mandated state testing.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and families.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.
