About the position

The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, is responsible for providing quality educational services to special education students from kindergarten through grade 12. This role requires a strong commitment to team participation in the planning and implementation of individualized student programs, which include special instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation with general education staff. The teacher will work closely with parents and other educational professionals to ensure that each student's unique needs are met effectively. In this position, the Special Education Teacher will prepare student education plans in consultation with parents and department team members, supporting students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. The teacher will design instruction that aligns with the general education curriculum, providing both individual and small group instruction. Additionally, the teacher will assist parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals in developing educational plans that promote students' educational, physical, and social development. The role also involves preparing materials and classrooms for class activities, serving as the coordinator for the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with general education staff. The teacher will monitor student progress, participate in the review and revision of IEPs as necessary, and maintain accurate student records. Mentoring and supporting teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities is also a key responsibility. Furthermore, the teacher will support students in preparing for grade transitions and life skills, assess students' skills and educational needs, and track their performance. Effective communication with students, parents, and other teachers is essential to maintain positive relationships and ensure student success. The teacher must adhere to all School District policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred
  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state regulations
  • Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR certification if applicable
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate as per contract or state regulation
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and clients
  • Proficiency in the English language required
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
