About the position

The SEK Interlocal is seeking dedicated Special Education Teachers for immediate openings in our Special Education Behavioral Day School, with anticipated openings for the 2024-2025 school year. The positions are located in Girard and Columbus, Kansas. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive educational experience tailored to meet the unique needs of students with various disabilities. This includes developing individualized education plans (IEPs), implementing instructional strategies, and collaborating with other educators and support staff to ensure that each student receives the appropriate support and resources necessary for their success. In this role, you will work closely with students who may have learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, autism, and other health impairments. You will be expected to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters learning and growth. The SEK Interlocal operates a comprehensive special education program that serves a diverse population of students across 13 school districts, ensuring that all children have access to a well-rounded education. The SEK Interlocal is committed to meeting the needs of exceptional children through quality programs and services. We offer a full continuum of services, including early childhood education, speech/language pathology, and support for students with visual and hearing impairments. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide instruction and support to students with various disabilities in a classroom setting.
  • Collaborate with other educators, paraeducators, and support staff to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters learning and growth.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities to enhance teaching skills.

Requirements

  • Valid Kansas teaching license in Special Education or eligibility for licensure.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with behavioral management strategies.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive teaching methods.
  • Certification in crisis intervention or de-escalation techniques.
