About the position

The Special Education Teacher at Branham High School is responsible for providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. This position requires a commitment to fostering an educational atmosphere that promotes equity and social justice, ensuring that all students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, receive the support they need to succeed academically and socially. The teacher will work collaboratively with other educators, support staff, and families to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs. This role also involves assessing student progress, adapting instructional strategies, and utilizing various teaching methods to engage students effectively. The Special Education Teacher will play a crucial role in advocating for students' rights and ensuring compliance with all relevant educational laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices in the classroom.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student needs and progress.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in both one-on-one and group settings.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and IEP documentation.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of special education best practices.

Requirements

  • Current credential or proof of eligibility to enroll in an approved teacher preparation program.
  • Resume and letter of introduction as part of the application process.
  • Up to 13 years of certificated teaching experience may be honored for initial step placement.
