About the position
The Special Education Teacher (Math/Science) position at University Academy Charter High School involves providing in-class support for classified students in grades 9-12, primarily in inclusion classes for math and science. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge in math and science, motivate students to improve their skills, and support their social-emotional well-being. Responsibilities include collaborating with content area teachers to differentiate and modify instructional approaches and materials according to students' IEPs in various settings, including remote, blended, and in-person. Inclusion classes are capped at 20 students. The position begins immediately for the duration of the 2024-2025 school year and is eligible for renewal.
Responsibilities
- Provide in-class support for classified students in grades 9-12 in inclusion classes for math and science.
- Demonstrate strong math and science knowledge to motivate students.
- Support students' social-emotional well-being and development.
- Collaborate with content area teachers to differentiate and modify instructional approaches and materials according to students' IEPs.
- Work in remote, blended, and in-person settings.
- Ensure inclusion classes do not exceed 20 students.
Requirements
- Must hold at least a NJ Certificate of Eligibility for Teacher of Students with Disabilities.
- Dual certification in math or science preferred.
- Out-of-state candidates must have initiated the reciprocity process with the NJDOE.
- Candidates must live in New Jersey or plan to relocate to NJ.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in teaching special education students in math and science subjects.
- Familiarity with IEPs and differentiated instruction.
