About the position

The Guadalupe Union School District (K-8) is located on the beautiful California Central Coast, approximately 70 miles north of Santa Barbara and 32 miles south of San Luis Obispo. The city, situated in the northwest section of Santa Barbara County, has a population of approximately 7,000 residents. Guadalupe is located in the rural agricultural section of the greater Santa Maria Valley, where agriculture is the biggest industry. The district serves families of Guadalupe as well as families from neighboring areas, with many students coming from migrant families. Enrollment in August 2020 was 1,271 students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade, with a diverse student population. The District's certificated staff includes 36 teachers at Mary Buren Elementary School and 27 teachers at Kermit McKenzie Intermediate School, supported by a Vice Principal and Intervention Teachers. The district operates various instructional programs to support and supplement core instruction, including a 1:1 technology program and a library at both school sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to special education students with Mild/Moderate needs.
  • Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure student success.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student needs and progress.

Requirements

  • Valid California Special Education Instruction Credential Mild/Mod.
  • Authorization to instruct special education students with English Learner authorization (e.g. CLAD or BCLAD).
  • TB and Fingerprint Clearance required upon hiring.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with diverse student populations, particularly English Learners.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies for special education.
