The primary function of the Teacher, Special Education is to plan, implement, and evaluate learning programs and activities in assigned teaching areas. This role involves diagnosing student individualized learning needs and prescribing and implementing instructional services to maximize the learning of each individual student, consistent with District goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Plans and implements appropriate instructional activities.
- Utilizes a variety of instructional skills and methods.
- Selects appropriate learning materials.
- Monitors and evaluates student progress.
- Participates in IEP meetings.
- Maintains appropriate classroom control.
- Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter.
- Provides individualized instruction.
- Establishes appropriate relationships with students.
- Helps to develop each student's self-image.
- Encourages students to accept responsibility.
- Assists the student in setting and achieving goals.
- Provides for student growth and enrichment.
- Utilizes academic learning time.
- Participates in professional growth activities.
- Conducts conferences and communicates with students, parents, and support personnel.
- Performs basic student attendance accounting, textbook accounting, and business services.
- Maintains cooperative, professional attitudes with peers and supervisors.
- Ensures the care and protection of school property.
- Fulfills assigned co-curricular responsibilities.
Requirements
- Appropriate California Secondary Teaching Credential
