The Special Education Teacher for Moderate/Severe (Extensive Needs) is responsible for providing a comprehensive special education program tailored to meet the unique needs of pupils with moderate to severe disabilities. This role involves teaching a curriculum that aligns with the standards set by the Board of Education, ensuring that all learning activities are appropriate and beneficial for the students. The teacher will instruct pupils in essential citizenship skills and basic subject matter as mandated by state law and the administrative regulations of the school district. In this position, the teacher will create planned learning experiences that motivate students and effectively utilize instructional time. This includes identifying and adjusting instructional objectives based on individual student needs, using district standards, goals, and objectives as a framework. The teacher will develop lesson plans and instructional materials that cater to the diverse learning requirements of each pupil, providing both individualized and small group instruction. Establishing and maintaining a conducive learning environment is crucial, and the teacher will set standards for pupil behavior to foster a functional classroom atmosphere. This includes supporting the district's discipline policy and site discipline plan. The teacher will evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain accurate records, and prepare progress reports while communicating regularly with parents regarding their child's progress. Collaboration with other professional staff members is essential for identifying pupil needs and addressing health, attitude, and learning challenges. The teacher will also be responsible for creating an engaging and functional learning environment through attractive displays and bulletin boards. Continuous professional development is expected, with participation in in-service education activities provided by the district or self-selected growth opportunities. The teacher will also engage in the teacher evaluation process in accordance with district guidelines, requisition necessary instructional materials, supervise pupils throughout the school day, and administer standardized tests as part of the district's testing program.
