About the position

The Special Education Teacher position in LaGrange, KY, for the 24/25 school year offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of students with disabilities. The role involves providing quality educational services to special education students from kindergarten through grade 12, collaborating with parents and staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), and supporting students' academic and social development.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares student education plans in consultation with parents and department team members
  • Supports learning for students with a wide range of disabilities
  • Designs instruction that parallels the general education curriculum
  • Assists in developing educational plans with parents and professionals
  • Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities
  • Coordinates IEP implementation with general education staff
  • Monitors student progress and participates in IEP reviews
  • Maintains accurate student records
  • Mentors and supports teaching assistants
  • Supports students in preparation for grade transitions and life skills
  • Assesses students' skills and educational needs
  • Communicates students' progress with other teachers
  • Maintains positive relationships with students and parents
  • Follows School District policies and procedures

Requirements

  • KY Teaching License/Certification
  • LBD Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred
  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state regulations
  • Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
