About the position

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) will play a crucial role in supporting students with visual impairments across various sites within the Vallejo City Unified School District for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is designed to provide specialized instruction and support to visually impaired students, ensuring they have access to a comprehensive educational experience that meets their unique needs. The TVI will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education staff, and parents to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote student achievement and independence. In this role, the TVI will assess students' functional vision and learning needs, providing tailored instruction in areas such as orientation and mobility, daily living skills, and the use of assistive technology. The teacher will also be responsible for creating a safe and engaging learning environment that fosters student growth and encourages active participation. Additionally, the TVI will provide training and resources to staff and families to enhance understanding and support for students with visual impairments. The ideal candidate will be committed to promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect, aligning with the district's mission to support student achievement through excellent customer service and effective communication.
