About the position

The Juneau School District is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Auke Bay Elementary School. This full-time position (1.0 FTE) requires an individual who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special needs. The successful candidate will manage a student caseload as part of a special education team, contributing to a dynamic and innovative educational program within the school and the district. The role involves utilizing multiple forms of assessment to tailor educational strategies to meet the diverse needs of students. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) that align with the unique requirements of each student. You will collaborate with colleagues across various settings to ensure that students receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of current research in special education and be familiar with a variety of teaching strategies that cater to diverse learning styles. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the position requires excellent interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. You will be expected to demonstrate an appreciation for parental concerns regarding their children’s education and be available to communicate effectively with families. Behavior management skills are essential, as you will work with students who may exhibit a range of behavioral challenges. Requirements

  • Valid Alaska teaching certificate with a special education endorsement.
  • Recent experience managing large caseloads with a variety of exceptionalities.
  • Flexibility to work with colleagues in multiple settings.
  • Knowledge of current research in the field of special education.
  • Knowledge of various teaching strategies for diverse students.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to promote positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
