About the position

Atascadero High School is seeking a qualified Special Education Teacher to join our team. The position offers a salary placement on the Special Education Program Teachers Salary Schedule, ranging from $60,704 to $99,554, depending on experience and qualifications. The salary is based on 190 workdays, which includes 3 non-student days for training and 2 non-student days for IEP review. Additional release time will be provided during the school year based on caseloads and assessments. The salary may be prorated based on the date of hire. Candidates with a Master's Degree will receive a 2% increase on their base annual salary, while those with a Doctorate Degree will receive an additional 2%. National Board Certification will provide an additional $1,000.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Facilitate IEP meetings and collaborate with parents and other educators.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Consult with general education teachers to support students with special needs.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.

Requirements

  • Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential for Mild/Moderate Disabilities (or in progress).
  • Bridge Authorization: Mild to Moderate Support Needs (MMSN).
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Added Authorization.
  • Appropriate ELL Authorization (CLAD or equivalent).
  • Ability to develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and facilitate an IEP meeting.
  • Tuberculosis Clearance.
  • Ability to pass DOJ Background/Fingerprint Check.
  • CPR Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in Special Education programs.
  • Ability to differentiate for a variety of instructional levels.
  • Ability to collaborate and consult with general education teachers.
  • Thorough understanding of Response to Intervention (RtI).
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of conflict management.
  • Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Certification.
  • Master's Degree.
